We Understand Why This Raises Questions
If you’ve read our Artist Agreement, you may have noticed language about “derivative works.”
We’ve heard from artists who wanted clarification, and we completely understand why.
Legal agreements are often written broadly to account for future situations. This page explains, in plain English, how World Culture Radio actually uses those rights.
Our Philosophy Comes First
World Culture Radio exists to help independent artists, not to take ownership of their music or change their creative vision.
We believe artists should maintain ownership, control, and creative integrity throughout their careers.
That’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day.
Why the Agreement Uses Broad Language
Our attorney drafted the agreement with broad legal language so we have the flexibility to create promotional and broadcast materials without constantly rewriting contracts.
That legal flexibility allows us to adapt to new promotional opportunities while operating efficiently.
Just because the agreement permits something doesn’t mean it’s our policy to do it.
How We Actually Use Derivative Works
Our use of derivative works is focused on promoting artists and operating the station.
Examples include:
- Radio promos
- Station IDs
- Sweepers
- Jingles
- Commercials
- Promotional videos
- Social media content
- Broadcast production
- Event promotion
These materials help introduce listeners to artists and support programming across the platform.
What We Don't Do
Our policy is not to:
- Create remixes of your songs for commercial release.
- Rewrite or substantially alter your music.
- Release modified versions of your work without your knowledge.
- Present your music as if it were created by World Culture Radio.
We respect the creative integrity of every artist we work with.
Our Commitment to Artists
Our mission has always been simple:
Promote independent artists while respecting their ownership, creativity, and long-term success.
If you ever have questions about how your music is being used, please reach out. We’d much rather have a conversation than leave you wondering.
